IMPORTANT VISA CAMP UPDATES
Effective January, 2003, due to Airport Security reasons, the Visa Camps that are held outside of Houston by the Consulate General of India (CGI), Houston will no longer accept CASH, Credit Cards or Personal Checks for Visa / Passport services. They will accept ONLY Cashiers Check or Money Orders drawn in the favor of Consulate General of India.
Indian Visa
For US nationals, application requirements are:
- Complete Indian Visa application form
- US Passport should have a minimum validity of six months on the date of application with at least two blank pages.
- 2 passport size photographs (black/white or color) depicting front pose against light background
- Supporting documents, if the visa being applied for is other than a Tourist Visa, the visa application should be accompanied with supporting documents on type of visa applied for. For details, please see categories of visa given below.

- Persons of Indian Origin applying for a visa for the FIRST time on US passport must submit their Indian passport along with the application form for cancellation and return.
- If the visa is required on a new US passport booklet, either previous US passport or photocopy of Indian visa is to be submitted with the application.
For Non-US nationals, application requirements are as above PLUS:
- Copy of valid green card or long term US visa
Applicants who are not citizens/residents of the USA and hold a tourist or other short-term visa for USA should normally apply for Indian visas in the countries of their permanent residence. In case of emergency or special circumstance, an application could be made at the Indian Embassy in Washington DC or Consulates General of India in the US. In addition to the relevant visa fee they should remit an additional US$20 for reference to be made to the country of their original residence. The processing time in such cases is usually 5 working days.
Indian Passports
- All passport applications and changes are processed out of Houston office and will be returned via mail.
- New Passport
You should apply for a new passport if your passport
- is completing 10 years
- there is a an F or Final written after the date of expiry
Application requirements:
- Completed application form for new passport
- Original existing passport
- 4 photographs (preferably in color, front facing, 35 X 45 mm )
- Copy of Green Card (both sides, enlarged clear copy) or Employment Authorization card
(clear enlarged copy) or legal/ visa status such as HIB etc. Copy of the marriage
certificate if name of spouse to be entered in new booklet.
- In case present passport does not contain the name of spouse and you wish to have it
entered in your new passport, copy of marriage certificate is required.

- Passport Renewal
Application requirements:
- Original passport
- Completed Passport Renewal form
- Copy of Green Card (both sides, enlarged clear copy) or Employment Authorization card
(clear enlarged copy) or legal/ visa status such as HIB etc

- Duplicate Passport
Application Requirements:
- Application form for a new passport, declaration in the form must be notarized
- 7 photographs (color, front facing, 35X 45 mm). One photograph must be pasted on
the application and notarized.
- 6 copies of Personal Particulars Proforma
- Police Report about the loss of passport
- Copy of lost passport
- Copies of school certificates/ birth certificate/ Indian driving license/ ration card/
Election Commission I.D./ employment letter/ any other photo-identification from India
(whichever available)
- Letter from school / college , if student
- Proof of residence in USA from the date indicated in the application such as copies
of utility bills and copy of lease deed of house/ apartment occupied/ bank certificate/
insurance policy
- Copy of Green Card/ Employment Authorization Card, as applicable. The Consulate may
demand to see the original.
- Letter on plain paper explaining the circumstances of loss of passport.
